The efforts are being led by the new Deniliquin Youth Initiative, with support from local organisations and Murray River Police District.
The theatre production covers issues around youth culture and relationships, which is expanded upon in a setting that is aimed to connect with young people.
It is created by the Phunktional Theatre Company, and aimed at students in Years 9 to 12.
Deniliquin Police Chief Inspector Michael Fuller said the aim of the performance is to build discussions with youth aged 14 and older.
“The Deni Youth Initiative recently held an information session about this project which brought together representatives from Deniliquin High School, Vinnies Services, police, Yarkuwa and other stakeholders to let the community know about the project and how they can assist.
“The aim for this project is to put on a number of performances for youth, as a way to connect and talk about issues that impact them and have relevance for the community.
“Whilst fundraising is being managed through the Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre, it is part of a project that aims to connect with the wider community in Deniliquin, particularly youth from all backgrounds.
“The theatre production has been performed in many regional centres and has had significant value in conversations with youth and critical issues about growing up and making positive choices and dealing with the challenges of relationships and risky behaviour that can impact their lives now and into the future.
“If you think you can help, I would encourage you to see in what ways you can contribute to this project.”
