For Angelina McKay of Cobram, it’s something which comes intuitively.
The 12-year-old Cobram Anglican Grammar School student has found herself in the spotlight after her submission to a global competition came first in the state finals.
Angelina said her submission represents the inclusiveness of different countries and genders.
“There’s a lot of criticism going towards different kinds of people with different nationalities and everything, different genders,” Angelina said.
Angelina completed her poster the day before submissions were due and didn’t expect it to be received so well.
“This one I just did for fun, but I didn’t expect it to go that far,” she said.
She said she was in complete shock when she discovered her poster had made it to the national finals.
“I was happy, I was overwhelmed, I had to process everything,” she said.
“It was a really big surprise to me that it actually made it through.”
To complete her piece, Angelina used a combination of Textas, pencils and paints.
The theme of this year’s Peace Poster competition, run annually by Lions Club International, was Peace Without Limits.
According to the Lions Club International website, the competition is aimed at allowing young people to express their ideas of peace through art.
To celebrate her win, Angelina’s parents served her up her favourite meal - spaghetti carbonara.
