It was a mammoth day for the Cobram Football and Netball Club on Saturday as three of its teams played off in Murray Football Netball League grand finals at Moama.
The day began at 9am with the under-14s who took to the ground against Moama with confidence after finishing their season in third place on the ladder.
The young Tiger pups gave it everything on the heavy ground and applied all they had to take out the MFL premiership 3-4 (22) to Moama 3-1 (19).
Vice captain Jack Iddles played an outstanding game and was voted ‘Man of the Match’ for his amazing skill and tireless efforts.
Next it was over to the netball courts and the Murray Netball League’s 15-and-under grand final between Deniliquin and Cobram, who had finished the season with 13 wins from 15 games; a fantastic result.
Contesting a hard-fought game on Saturday, Cobram unfortunately went down 21-14 goals.
In the afternoon it was time for the senior game with Cobram facing off against Mulwala.
While both sides fought hard, Cobram remained confident and were in front for most of the game, but in the latter stages of the last quarter Mulwala took the lead to finish with a three-point victory, 44 to 47.
Cobram can look forward to an exciting future with this young side of predominantly talented locals who have come up through the junior ranks.
The club has had a top year and to get so close to claiming the premiership is a credit to the players and coaching staff led by John Brunskill.
For those who didn’t attend the football, hopefully these photos give an indication of the pride and excitement felt by the youngsters who played in the under-14s premiership team.
