Readers would recall Joshua and Louisa Sasse who ran the Beach Café over a period of time during which Joshua, a British actor, regularly auditioned for a number of overseas acting roles.

Two months ago, now Atlanta-based Joshua secured a role in a new Fox Network series, Monarch, alongside Susan Sarandon. The 12-week series is a musical drama about America’s first family of country music, the Roman family and will go to air in January. Country singer Trace Adkins plays Albie Roman and Susan Sarandon, his wife.
Late last week Louisa, and the couples’ two young children, Dominic and Delilah, boarded a flight for Atlanta and despite the lengthy flying time with a baby and a toddler, hopefully the feeling of elation at the family being together again would have soon overcome jetlag and sleep deprivation for Louisa.
The family expects to be home again in a few months’ time.
Farewell to Jamie
Young Cobram journalist Jamie Salter wrote her final stories for the Cobram Courier last Friday and has taken up a new role in Melbourne.
Melbourne-born Jamie found the restraints during COVID-19 lockdowns and not being able to see her family for months on end extremely difficult.
Therefore, the 24-year-old made a decision to further her journalism career closer to home.
Jamie studied journalism at RMIT and came to McPherson Media after graduating. Initially she wrote for the Country News and then was appointed as Cobram journalist.
She grew to love the town and has shown over time both growth and maturity in her writing and locals can be extremely grateful to this young woman for the care she took in delivering their news!
Well done Jamie and good luck for your future!
Arts Fest a great success
Moira Arts and Culture Inc. conducted a hugely popular Arts Fest over the weekend to the delight of all participants.
Held at the Cobram showgrounds, the number of interested attendees indicated that people are certainly interested in the arts and a great many are talented and artistic!
Creative regional artists gave their time willingly to teach beginners and assist those wanting to increase their skills in mosaic, oil painting, watercolors, pastels and pencil drawing and no matter the medium, there were people with the skills to guide and advise. If it was woodworking, pottery or candlemaking you were keen to learn, there were tutors available too!
Internationally renowned landscape artist Ross Paterson of Shepparton paints in oil, acrylic and watercolor and took a full day class. He was a complete inspiration for local Sandi Hamilton of Barooga, “I learnt more in two hours than I ever have before. Ross is such a good teacher and has been wonderful,” she said, delighted.
Ross Paterson is recognised not only in Australia as one of our finest landscape artists but also in many other countries including China and France where he has quite a following. He has held exhibitions and conducted workshops in many countries and this quiet unassuming artist is the same with everyone he meets.
”I am very pleased to be here in Cobram and to have the opportunity to be of some help and offer a little advice. My wife Barbara and I have been invited overseas again but I feel that with COVID we won’t travel again. We have the most spectacular landscape here! You really can’t find anything better,” said Ross.
Over the weekend, having smaller intimate classes enabled tutors to give individual attention to each student, benefiting them enormously. The common remark from attendees was, “we learnt a lot, had such fun and can’t wait for the next one!”
Tutors giving of their time over the weekend were: Kerrie Murrell - mosaic, James Stojko of Benalla - oil painting, Mary Ellis of Greta - pastel drawing, Fiona Hackett - pottery, Beverley Williams of Numurkah - pencil drawing and Beccy Freeman of Numurkah - candle making, Rob Hamilton - woodwork.
