Cobram Community House and the Cobram Lions Club have been working together to establish a shower program for people experiencing homelessness.
The free service will offer practical, friendly and welcoming support to members of the community who are sleeping rough or experiencing other forms of homelessness. It will also be open to those who may need to use the service.
Cobram Community House manager Christine Osborne said they were hoping to have the program up and running within a few weeks.
“Our shower program will provide a practical hygiene solution for people who do not have access to showers in a safe, dignified and supportive way,” she said.
The two groups are calling on the community to lend support to this project and are accepting financial contributions as well as donations of toothbrushes, soap, towels and hygiene products. Donations can be left at the Community House.
The program will be run by volunteers. Those interested in participating as a volunteer can call Christine at the Cobram Community House on 5872 2224.
To kick off the fundraising effort, Cobram Lions are holding a fundraising sausage sizzle at the grand opening of Manto’s Produce and Providore on Saturday, September 17.
