A joint investment in the Road Safety Program by the state and federal governments will see a new roundabout constructed in Greater Shepparton.

Works have already begun at the intersection of the Midland Hwy and Central Ave, Shepparton East, to deliver the two-lane roundabout, which is tagged as aiming to “improve safety and reduce congestion”.
The timeline set for the construction period is 10 months, with reduced speed limits, lane closures and “stop and slow” traffic arrangements in place across two stages of the project.
In stage one — estimated to be in place from October to late December — the southern half of the roundabout will be constructed, meaning access to the Midland Hwy from the south end of Central Ave will not be permitted.
Instead, a detour will be in place via Poplar Ave and Orrvale Rd.

Stage two is slated to begin after the festive season holiday period, and will involve the construction of the northern side of the roundabout.
During that time, access from the Midland Hwy to the northern part of Central Ave will not be permitted.
More details on detours for stage two will be released at transport.vic.gov.au before those works begin.
