Arriving off the back of his time painting the silos in nearby Rochester, Jimmy Dvate has been commissioned by Cobram Arts for All to create a mural on the walls of Mivo Park’s toilet block.
Arts for All Cobram treasurer Julie Glance said the project has been in the pipeline for a couple of years.
Mr Dvate was selected from a pool of artists from across Victoria to lead the project, Mrs Glance said.
“Jimmy ticked the most boxes,” she said.
Mrs Glance said the location was ideal for a mural.
“It’s a prominent position in Cobram that attracts a lot of visitors,” she said.
“It’s a lovely park.”
While she could not comment on the specific design of the mural, Mrs Glance did provide a clue.
The mural will depict “something with river scenes and native flora and fauna”, she said.
Dvate’s artwork is inspired by his appreciation of native Australian flora and fauna.
The project is expected to finish by December 1.
Moira Shire Council helped to fund the project with a $10,000 Community Strengthening Grant.
The project was also assisted by Bendigo Bank through its Community Enterprise Foundation and funds raised during Easter by the bank’s Cobram branch.
