Mitchell Shire Council’s draft Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030 is open for public consultation.

The draft provides a roadmap for waste and resource recovery services for the next eight years, to reduce the amount of waste generated and encourage reusing and recycling.

A weekly food and organics kerbside collection, a waste and recycling education centre in Seymour and improvements to waste and recycling infrastructure have all been put forward as ideas.

The strategy aims to reduce waste through education, recover the maximum value from all waste material to support a local circular economy and protect our environment and community from the impacts of waste.

Mayor Fiona Stevens said reducing waste was a joint responsibility between council and residents.

“It’s really important that our community has input into this significant strategy by sharing their ideas on how to manage waste and recycling to reduce what goes into landfill,” Cr Stevens said.
