Tuesday, December 12 saw the opening of the Mick Cleary Walking Track and Queen’s Jubilee Trees at the Strathmerton Recreational Reserve.

The event was attended by the panel of administrators, Strathmerton Steering Committtee members, the Cleary family and the public.
Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell also attended.
Speaking at the event, panel of administrators chair John Tanner said it was a great event for the Strathmerton community.
“I think for council, we’re delighted to be able to support it,” he said.
“Mick was a very respected person within the community ... So this is a great way that the community has come together to recognise Mick.”
Strathmerton Community Steering Committee chairperson Kerry Murray was just as delighted with the project.
Ms Murray described Mr Cleary as a selfless person who worked hard for his community.
Many of the trees planted were planted by school students in the region.
Family affair: The Cleary family was on hand at the ceremony to be the first to officially use the walking track.

Mick Cleary’s daughter Tess was at the event and thanked everyone involved in the project.
“We are so grateful to have a space to come to remember dad,” she said.
