Despite the presumption from many members of the public that the music industry is all “sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll”, Mr Matera will let you in on the real story — long days of rehearsing, performing, meeting the press, and possibly even some sleep.
“To most people the perception of the life of a music journalist is one of hanging out at parties with rock stars, partying until the early hours of the morning, jetting off to faraway locations and indulging in all the glamorous benefits that come with hanging with that sort of crowd,” Mr Matera wrote in his book.
“This perception couldn’t be further from the truth.”
The book — which was published overseas by Empire Publications and held the number one bestseller spot on the Amazon Music Book Charts in Sweden for two weeks — invites readers behind the scenes of the music industry to discuss some of the biggest names in rock, metal and pop music.
The lifestyle of the rich and famous has always entertained and fascinated audiences, and Mr Matera has had the opportunity to interview many icons first hand. His first big journalism break came in 2001, interviewing Nickelback in the band’s first Australian interview.
From there he went on to interview artists from all over the world, and write for top music industry magazines. The book is not just another celebrity gossip piece: it opens the readers’ eyes to the real world of the music industry.
