The programs, which run annually, are part of the club’s commitment to supporting the community and allowing young people the opportunity to grow.
Cobram Lions Club president Janet Austin is encouraging young people interested in the programs to give it a go, saying the programs aren't hard.
“We are looking forward to a good uptake in the programs, and hopefully, a lot of the local students take up the challenge,” Ms Austin said.
The club offers the following programs for 2024:
Junior Public Speaking
Open to students from Years 3 to 6, the program encourages students to look for information, expand their knowledge and understanding and organise their thoughts and feelings before expressing them to others.
The program runs in term one and two.
Cobram Lions Club Art Show
The Cobram Lions Art Show is an open competition with divisions for children between the ages of 10 and 14 and a general division where the children can choose the media and the subject of their choice.
Additionally, the show incorporates the Lions International Peace Poster competition and the Moira Tourism Poster competition.
Youth of the Year
Open to students aged 16-18 and in secondary schools, TAFE or distance education settings, the Youth of the Year competition is designed to foster leadership in young people.
It comprises a personal interview and a public speaking contest, with participants moving up the different levels upon success.
Queensland Fruit Fly Awareness
Aiming to improve public awareness of the Queensland fruit fly, the program involves students participating in games, puzzles and making fruit fly traps.
