Twenty advanced shade trees have been planted at Pyalong and Tooborac primary schools thanks to The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Project.
Commemorative plaques were unveiled at the schools and morning teas were enjoyed after the formalities on Thursday, October 20.
The project is part of a Commonwealth-wide network of tree planting events to honour the platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell was unable to attend the ceremony due to the flood emergency across the electorate, but he said the partnership would benefit the community.
“These trees not only honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, but will enhance the beauty of these schools while also providing a cooler environment in the summer months,” Mr Birrell said.
“The new trees will also serve as an opportunity for students to foster their relationship with the land and learn about the importance of growing and protecting our environment.”
The project was initiated by the Nulla Vale and Pyalong West Landcare Group.
The trees will be looked after by Landcare members, parents and the Tooborac and Pyalong communities.
