The Murray-Darling Basin Authority and Goulburn-Murray Water will start to refill Lake Mulwala to its normal level this week.
The gradual lowering of the lake, which started in early May, was to control the invasive waterweed Egeria densa and for infrastructure maintenance.
G-MW carried out maintenance under and around the bridge, including pylon inspections, as well as lake retaining-wall works and erosion repairs.
“Lowering the water level by five metres since early May has successfully dried out the invasive waterweed Egeria densa, helped by some good frosts,” MDBA executive director river management Andrew Reynolds said.
“We appreciate the community’s co-operation while we’ve taken this action and it’s been great to see visitors drawn to the region as well.
“Stream flows from the Kiewa and Ovens rivers are being used to refill the lake, along with releases from Hume Dam.”
Refilling should take three or four weeks.
