Facilitated by experienced teacher Caitlyn Trotter, the PAK, or Performing Arts Kids, Project creates opportunities for the youth of Seymour and surrounds to delve into their artistic side.
The Easter holidays workshop saw children aged five to 18 gather for in-depth sessions on music, drama and dance at the Les Bell Pavillion in Kings Park.
Ms Trotter was aided by teaching dance artist Kimberly Reed, who has been part of the Seymour Performers Workshop since its inception more than two decades ago.
Twenty-one children attended the workshop on April 9.
Ms Trotter said the workshop helped spread the message of what the PAK Project was all about.
“It went really well,” Ms Trotter said.
“We had really great feedback and it was great to run things a bit differently to our weekly programs.
“We had enough interest so, for future programs, we can now split our groups up into more concentrated sessions.”
Kids attending the workshop hailed from across the shire, and even from Shepparton.
Ms Trotter said it was lovely to see the children, who may previously have never been involved in an arts program like this, really step out of their shells.
“The standout was seeing these kids who went from teaching themselves at home learn how to do different techniques and be able to do it in a space that supports the arts,” Ms Trotter said.
“It was great seeing these kids coming out of the community and using these skills that they’ve been working on.”
The workshop not only saw specialised instruction on the arts, but attendees had the chance to make a take-home egg shaker, in the spirit of Easter.
Ms Trotter is optimistic about the future of PAK and said events like this assisted the growth of the project.
“There definitely is a growing interest in the arts and for kids to come out and enjoy it,” Ms Trotter said.
“The majority of the kids (involved in the workshop) were outside of the PAK Project and I think it means growth.
“It was a really good learning experience to see where the demand is in the community.
“It means a lot in terms of my development for my business. It’ll be really beneficial.”
