John Tanner, Chair of the Moira Shire Panel of Administrators, talked about its vision for the LGA during the next five years.
The panel of three which includes Suzanna Sheed brings a wealth of experience in local government, regional development and community engagement.
Mr Tanner recognised his knowledge of Rotary and its value to community from his own experience as a Rotarian for more than 20 years in Benalla.
He saluted Paul Harris for founding such a great organisation in 1905.
A Rotary Spokesperson said Mr Tanner also recognised other service groups.
“It was lovely to have guests from Lions and Cobram Regional Enterprise with us as well,” the Spokesperson said.
“Mr Tanner has been meeting with many local service organisations.
“He assured us that the panel of administrators were keen to positively move ahead by engaging with the community as much as possible to better understand what is important to us.
“We, as a group on the night, certainly asked many questions and they were answered openly and informatively.
“He said the panel’s aim is to ‘reset’ the organisation by ensuring an effective culture and good governance is in place, and visible, by the end of their tenure.
“The panel’s goal is to see the Moira municipality as the best in Victoria and he is confident this can happen.
“It is already working on building connections to work strategically with health organisations and schools.
“Mr Tanner is an advocate of youth in the area, and spoke highly of the recent younger recruits at Moira Shire.
“While we will not have a Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Mr Tanner has asked that we be mindful and supportive of the Tri State games in November and asked for our support to get behind this event.”
Cobram Rotary, Cobram Barooga Apex Club and Cobram Regional Enterprise have been trying for some years to progress the development of the former Apex Caravan Park.
“Mr Tanner was able to confirm that the majority of the land is definitely safe for public use,” the Spokesperson said.
“And a Masterplan that engages with community stakeholders will be developed as soon as possible.
“These three entities will work together with Moira Shire, and others, to transition this space into something that can be enjoyed by us all.”
