Performing will be The Ava McDermott Quartet, a jazz band comprising prize winning students from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music – University of Melbourne.
The group is made up of singer Ava McDermott, guitarist Jake Marken, Claire Abougelis playing the double bass and Pat Skarajew on the drums.
Being graduates of the University of Melbourne’s Conservatorium of Music, as well as award-winning musicians, it is shaping up to be a fantastic display of Jazz.
Ms McDermott is a vocalist and composer from Naarm (Melbourne).
“Proficient in both classical and jazz styles, Ava is a versatile musician, drawing from a range of musical traditions and techniques with a significant focus on improvisation,” her profile states.

This particular event is part of South West Music’s partnership with Melbourne University’s Conservatorium of Music, which saw jazz act, Spire, make its way to Deniliquin and perform earlier in the year.
The partnership allows for rural and local people to be exposed to musical experiences they otherwise would not be, they also give the musicians travelling to Deniliquin performance and touring opportunities.
Jazz at the Crossing will take place next Saturday, October 26, from 4pm to 5.30pm.
Tickets are still available from Humantix. They are $50 each, or $25 for SWM Live Music Concert Series members. As part of the ticket price, attendees will receive a famous Karen’s charcuterie board.
