The Goulburn Valley Health Local Public Health Unit, located in Shepparton, released a dedicated mobile vaccination service, affectionately known as “Jabba the Bus”.
The mobile clinic will travel across Greater Shepparton and Moira, Benalla, Strathbogie, Mitchell, Mansfield, Murrindindi and Campaspe shire (Kyabram and surrounds) to deliver COVID-19 vaccinations.
Greater Shepparton recorded four cases of COVID-19 on September 6, a small fraction of the state's total 246 cases — the highest number of cases since this Delta strain outbreak started.
Of the four cases, three were primary close contacts who were already in quarantine and one was a Mooroopna truck driver believed to have contracted the virus in NSW.
It has been nearly three weeks since the first positive case was identified in Shepparton.
From September 2, local government areas including Shepparton, Bendigo, Benalla, Buloke, Loddon, Yarriambiack have been excluded from the cross-border community area.
On September 6, Victorian Housing Minister Richard Wynne announced new government grants to help people struggling to pay rent, as well as $45 million for emergency accommodation for people experiencing homelessness.
The COVID-19 Rent Relief Grant program will help renters who are experiencing rental hardship due to the pandemic by providing up to $1500 direct financial support, paid to the landlord on the tenant's behalf.
“We know there are plenty of Victorians doing it tough right now – the last thing they need to worry about is whether they can keep a roof over their head,” Mr Wynne said.
The one-off payment is specifically for renters paying more than 30 per cent of their income in rent and grants will be targeted at those who have lost 20 per cent or more of their income due to the pandemic.
There is an annual income limit of $62,860 for singles and $94,300 for couples and, to be eligible, applicants cannot have more than $2000 in savings.
The landlord and renter will must also enter a rent reduction agreement for a period after May 27, 2021.
