Following the success of the Melanoma March at Kennedy Park, which raised over $11,000, long-time friends Julie Cameron and Erin Higgins are spearheading this high tea event.
All funds raised by the high tea will go towards research at the Melanoma Institute Australia.
“We’d be grateful for anyone who wants to come along and learn a bit more about melanoma,” Mrs Cameron said.
Guests will be treated to a performance by local musical maestro Paul Vitullo, while Dr Wod Al Khateeb of Shepparton’s Dr Wod Cosmetic Clinic will speak about melanoma and its impacts.
On the day there will also be raffles and lucky draws.
The event could not be more timely, with Cancer Council Australia reporting that melanoma diagnoses have risen from 53 cases per 100,000 in 2000 to about 70 cases per 100,000 this year.
Melanoma Institute Australia ranks melanoma as the third most common cancer nationwide, following prostate and breast cancer.
But for organisers, the event is even more personal.
The event holds deep personal significance for Mrs Higgins, who has bravely faced stage four melanoma and endured multiple surgeries in her fight against the disease.
The high tea will be held at the Cobram Show Grounds on Friday, September 27.
Doors open at 11am.
