No amount of money can buy you good health once you have lost it.
What is health? What does the word ‘health’ means to you?
The World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity". That is right, it is not just the health of the body, it is also health for your mind and your soul. Your mental and emotional wellbeing is just as important as the health of your body.
Many people are mentally and emotionally challenged during these difficult times. Mental health is a major concern in today’s society, especially as we are facing a global health crisis with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Let’s share how you can make a few simple lifestyle changes to enjoy good health for your body, mind and soul
Here are some simple steps to boost your body’s health.
1. Drink water: about 60 to 70 per cent of the body is based on water, yet many people don’t drink enough. Water is a vital ingredient for your body’s health. Drink at least two to 2.5 litres of water a day, unless you are medically restricted due to heart or kidney failure
2. Breathing: this is very important. Most people don’t breathe effectively. People tend to breathe shallow and fast. Learn to take four slow, deep breaths and hold for a few seconds before breathing out slowly. Repeat this four times and return to your normal breathing. You can do this exercise as many times as you like during the day. Oxygen is vital for every cell in your body, as well as to improve your memory and vitality.
3. Walking: walk daily for your health and fitness. You don’t need a gym membership. Just simple walking for 20 to 30 minutes a day at least two or three days a week is good for your cardio fitness. Getting out and breathing fresh air can also make you feel good. Research reveals that as you get out and breathe fresh air, your brain releases a neuro-transmitter called serotonin, which is a mood enhancer that makes you feel good. If you feel sad and depressed, make the effort to get up and go for a walk.
Enjoy life to the fullest.
