The Dookie, Devenish and District Good Friday Appeal successfully raised over $43,000 in its recent online auction, adding to the total of more than $400,000 raised for the Royal Children’s Hospital in the past seven years.
The auction, which was held from March 21 to March 28, featured over 240 donated lots, including drums of oil, hay, beauty products, and vouchers of all kinds.
“Everyone who donated and bought needs a real big thanks,” Dookie, Devenish and District Society president Paul Durden said.
“We exceeded last year’s total by $10,000, and we’re looking to equal or exceed last year’s total of $100,000 for the year.”
The next Dookie, Devenish and District fundraiser is the Show and Shine event on the main street in Dookie on Good Friday, April 7.
The event will feature a viewing of cars from 9am, with music at the Gladstone Hotel from 11am, along with raffles and food. Entry to the event is $10 per car.
Local businesses will be open and the fire brigade and local clubs will be shaking tins to raise more funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Mr Durden is confident the community’s support will enable the society to get close to half a million dollars raised by the end of this year, making a significant impact on the hospital and the children it cares for.
The Dookie, Devenish and District Good Friday Appeal holds several events throughout the year to support the Royal Children's Hospital.
The group encourages people to check its Facebook page for upcoming events and information on how to support the cause.
