A crowd of about 200, including families, groups of friends and local dignitaries, came along to celebrate Australia’s national day with a barbecue breakfast of egg and bacon rolls and a sausage sizzle.
The Katamatite Community Action Group ran the small gathering while the town’s Lions Club provided the food.
Katamatite Primary School Principal Jason Whiteley was the event’s MC with Moira Shire councillors Peter Elliott and Ed Cox also contributing to the event.
Two awards were given out at the event, the first being the Community Event of the Year which was presented to the Katamatitie Football Club.
The second award was Community Organisation of the Year, which was presented to the Katamatite Lions Club.
Cr Elliot said Australia Day was a day for the community.
“People coming together to celebrate. You know that’s what it's all about. Having a sense of community, having a barbecue, you know, everyone having a chat.”
