Katamatite, Tungamah, Numurkah Wunghnu, Yarrawonga and District and Murchison cemetery trusts are all receiving funding to help upgrade and maintain their grounds.
They are among more than 70 cemetery trusts across the state to receive funding from the program.
Katamatite Cemetery Trust is receiving $8345 to buy a ride-on mower and leaf blower.
Tungamah Cemetery Trust is getting $17,000 for lawn beams and regravelling of the roads, carpark and the paths.
The Numurkah Wunghnu Cemetery Trust is getting $12,000 for grave shoring, which is used to support the sides of a grave.
The Yarrawonga and District Cemetery Trust will get $9000 for a shed and mower.
The Murchison Cemetery Trust is receiving $2750 for an aerial survey.
In total, $748,868.62 has been awarded through the 2021-22 funding round with applications now open for round two.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said the state government recognised the cemeteries’ community role and the upgrade opportunity the grants would provide.
“Providing the local community with a peaceful place to visit their loved ones is a meaningful way to preserve their memory, and this funding will help provide this,” he said.
The funding is expected to financially support the mostly volunteer-run cemeteries to function as welcoming and peaceful places of remembrance.
The latest round of funding is expected to secure the sites’ long-term futures and provide modern facilities expected from the community.
