But for Lahiru Fernando and Chalani Soysa and their daughters, the town by the mighty Murray is home.
The family proudly owns Hot n Sweet, a Sri Lanka-focused food catering business often seen at food festivals and public events in the region.
The couple came to live in Australia about 10 years ago when Tocumwal Cricket Club sponsored Mr Fernando to come and play for it as an all-rounder.
Once settled down they decided upon opening up Hot n Sweet.
Opening up a food catering business may be daunting to some, but for Ms Soysa it was a case of treading familiar territory as she owned a business, with the same name, in Sri Lanka.
Together, the couple now serves delectable Sri Lankan finger food, including pastries, chicken rolls, chicken pan rolls and curries.
The business is very much the domain of Ms Soysa, while Mr Fernando, who has his own job, helps out where and when he can.
Alongside savoury snacks, Ms Soysa also bakes cakes.
Major events that the couple has taken part in include the Cobram Lions Christmas Twilight Market and Cobram Community House’s Cultural Diversity Week.
Like many cuisines from Asia, Sri Lankan food is surging in popularity across Australia, and Mr Fernando puts this down to Australians enjoying the variety that Asian cuisine has to offer as well as the spices that often add flavour to Asian and especially Indian/Sri Lankan food.
“People always like to have something different,” he said.
Asked what her favourite food is, Ms Soysa selected a traditional option that has been enjoyed since antiquity.
“I like normal Sri Lankan red rice and curries,” she said.
