Construction of a slip lane from Florence St to Benalla Rd in Shepparton is about to get under way.
Greater Shepparton City Council is starting works to upgrade the Benalla Rd and Florence St intersection — next to the Overlander Hotel and across from the entrance to the Shepparton Marketplace — from Tuesday, March 14.
Among the upgrades will be a slip lane from Florence St on to Benalla Rd, which will mean traffic turning left on to the main thoroughfare will no longer have to wait for the lights to change.
Businesses along both roads will have access to their premises during the works, but there may be some temporary changes to access as the works progress.
East- and west-bound Benalla Rd traffic will have only minimal disruptions while northbound along Florence St will remain open for the majority of the project, with any closures kept to a minimum.
There will be no southbound traffic movements through the intersection during the works. Detours will be in place via Enterprise Dve and the Midland Hwy.
Pedestrian access will be provided during the works; however, access will alter as the works progress.
Preliminary works took place in January, with the civil works to start next week and completion expected by May.
The project is funded 50/50 by council and the Federal Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program. The estimated cost of the project is $1.67 million.
