Across a number of schools in the area, new little faces are making their way through the gates in what seems to be a normal year on campus.
Rochester Primary School principal Graeme Hodgens said he was pleased to see students back at their desks from January 28.
“After the year we had last year, we're glad to be back,” he said.
“It was great to be able to have parents drop their kids off and not have to leave them outside. They were able to come into the classrooms again, sit for a while and be a part of the community again.”
Mr Hodgens said his school had welcomed 10 new enrolments this year.
“We're not sure if it's because COVID-19 has led to people wanting to move and has brought new families to town, but we're not complaining,” he said.
“A few schools around here have had the same thing and it's great for our area.”
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Elmore also had a great week, with principal Elizabeth Trewick seeing a lot of engaging activities in classrooms.
“Students in our junior room have participated in a great deal of hands-on learning including making Kind Koalas with their pincer fingers and Stretchy Snakes with spots and stripes,” she said.
“Language experience is a focus of the junior classroom as they learn to read and write using enriching and engaging language.
“And our middle and senior classes have been developing their own unique learning culture.”
Ms Trewick said the school was making its relationships with the students and their families a priority this year.
“We are looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming people into our school. The partnership between school and home is vital when we consider improving outcomes for all students,” she said.
