The voices of about 15 students can be heard while viewing the Art In The Heart display as part of the Shepparton Festival.
The project came out of a First Nations’ oriented program at Gowrie St Primary School called Aunties, giving students the opportunity to express their feelings through poetry and rap.
GSLP secured funding for the Melbourne-based School of Living Music to visit Shepparton and record the raps and GSLP communications co-ordinator Amy De Paola said the students loved the experience.
“They were all absolutely in their element and really engaged in the process,” she said.
“If you sit and listen to [the lyrics] they’re quite earnest in terms of the kids expressing their feelings and pride in their culture.”
The exhibition is on daily from 10am to 4pm at 69 High St, Shepparton, until Sunday, April 3.
