Encompassing 12 local government areas across the state, including the Mitchell, Strathbogie and Murrindindi shires, RDA Hume will now be led by Brett Luxford.
Mr Luxford has experience in leadership roles across rural, regional and metropolitan councils in economic development, strategic planning, partnerships and governance.
Recently, Mr Luxford finished a four-year tenure as Mitchell Shire Council chief executive.
“Hume is a fast-growing region with rich diversity, unbeatable lifestyle and new opportunities for jobs, industry and economic growth,” Mr Luxford said.
“It’s a great privilege to be able to lead RDA in Hume to help realise this potential.
“I’m looking forward to the future of our work in regional Victoria and encourage people to apply for committee roles, with applications open until the end of April.”
Mr Luxford’s predecessor Eliza Brown served as chair of RDA Hume for three years.
During this time, Ms Brown secured critical business and community support for Falls Creek during the Bogong High Plains Rd landslip, drove further government investment in the region’s alpine resorts, and strengthened the promotion of Hume’s wine and food tourism.
“It has been an honour to work with so many passionate and dedicated people across the Hume region over the past three years,” Ms Brown said.
“Together, we have attracted significant investment to support businesses, tourism and jobs in our region and have advocated for what matters most to people in our communities.
“I look forward to continuing to see this grow in the coming years.”
Federal Regional Development Minister Kristy McBain offered congratulations to current, and newly appointed, RDA chairs.
“I congratulate new and returning RDA chairs, who will work closely with their community, local businesses and all levels of government to drive growth and development in their regions,” Ms McBain said.
“With more than $117 million from the Australian Government set to flow across all of the RDA committees over the next five years, it is an exciting time for the new and returning chairs, as they’ll have the opportunity to work with their members to set the future agendas for their RDAs.”
RDA Hume has a focus on identifying solutions to address housing shortages, supporting local business and industry, promoting the region’s unique tourism offerings and investment opportunities, and advocating to the Australian Government on critical local issues, opportunities and challenges.
Applications for RDA committee member positions are open until Wednesday, April 30 at 5pm.
