Drivers have been urged to be more cautious on the road after a student escaped with scrapes and bruises after a bike accident near a Shepparton school on Tuesday, September 6.
A Wilmot Road Primary School Year 3 student was allegedly knocked off his bike by a car at the intersection of Archer St and Wilmot Rd, Shepparton, after school on Tuesday.
The student received a few minor scrapes and their bike just needed a few repairs.
Wilmot Road Primary School principal Sharon Thompson said the student had been obeying all road rules around crossing the road and had been wearing a helmet.
She said it was a reminder for young people to ensure their helmets were fitted.
“The helmet made such a difference, ” she said.
“It’s a timely reminder to motorists to be safe around schools and to watch out, especially with school holidays around the corner.”
Ms Thompson said as far as she knew it was an isolated incident and not a recurring issue along Archer St or Wimot Rd.
She also said with holidays coming up, it was important to remember even though the 40km/h signs switch off, children could still be walking and riding around.
Shepparton police said the incident had not been reported to them.
