A man driving on a Goulburn Valley road at more than 30km/h over the speed limit also tested positive for drugs.
Riley Bourne, 20, of Tocumwal, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to speeding and drug driving.
Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Brent O’Grady told the court police spotted Bourne driving fast on the Shepparton-Katamatite Rd at Tallygaroopna shortly after 11am on January 21.
He was clocked by a radar in the police car driving at 132km/h.
When police drug-tested Bourne after pulling him over, he tested positive for cannabis.
Leading Sen Constable O’Grady said Bourne told police at the time he was driving fast because he “has just finished overtaking a car”.
Representing himself in court, Bourne said he stopped smoking cannabis two-and-a-half months ago because he could not afford to lose his job.
Magistrate Peter Mithen fined Bourne $500 but told him off for driving at that speed, especially given his age.
“You can only have been driving for two years at the most,” he said.
“To be going at that clip, you haven’t got experience.”
