Run by Stacey Urquhart and Michael Williams from Deadly Arts in Numurkah, the workshop was attended by 15 people at the Arts for All centre, located at the old St Joseph’s Church in Cobram.
Arts for All president June Wood said the event was part of Moira Shire Council’s celebrations of Diversity Week.
“It was for cultural Diversity Week, which was something the shire helped fund. We thought it would be a nice idea to do the dot painting for something different,” Ms Wood said.
Ms Urquhart and Mr Williams talked about the tradition of dot art and the meaning behind various symbols before attendees got creative completing their own paintings.
According to Ms Wood, the session was a great hit and attendees came out of it having learned something different.
“Everybody loved it. It was very popular. People said it was very calming and relaxing,” she said.
Ms Wood said Diversity Week was a great opportunity to come together and learn as a community.
“It gives us the opportunity to experience how other people live their lives and it’s a good way to bring people together,” she said.
Arts for All will be running future events for the public, including a two-day workshop on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30.
The organisers will also be exhibiting at the Cobram Community Expo on Saturday, April 22.
