Community representatives are encouraged to apply for Strathbogie Shire Council’s ‘LEAP into resilience’ disaster preparedness program.
Local Emergency Action Plans (LEAP) will be created for five communities in Strathbogie under the ‘Leap into Resilience’ project.
The plans would identify risks to help communities understand the impact of natural disasters on their towns.
There would be a dedicated officer overseeing the program in the five communities for the next three years.
Violet Town and Euroa have already been selected as two of the five communities due to their known flood risk.
Council will collaborate and share expertise with Mansfield and Murrindindi Shire councils.
Strathbogie Mayor Laura Binks said the project was important due to the effects of climate change.
“This is a chance for our communities to have input into developing strategies for planning, response and recovery following an emergency event,” Cr Binks said.
