‘Shepparton and Goulburn Valley’ has been adopted as the new tourism destination branding by Greater Shepparton City Council, and is set to be rolled out later this year.
The new name and logo were brought before council at the August meeting after consultation with industry stakeholders, and the branding replaces ‘Many Great Things’, which has been in use since 2016.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said it was “perfect timing” for the change, with regional visitation on the up and major events back after two difficult years impacted by COVID-19.
He said with the Museum of Vehicle Evolution, Shepparton Art Museum and major events on the calendar, there were genuine reasons to visit the Goulburn Valley.
In moving the motion, Cr Geoff Dobson said it was important to have a clearly defined brand.
“Council’s visitor economy program has had a strong ‘major events’ focus and this year that has been brought to bear,” he said.
“In order for the local visitor economy to become more resilient and sustainable, events need to be balanced with other more permanent, home-grown tourism products and experiences.”
The brand project was tendered out to Melbourne based company Cupla.
Other potential names considered included ‘Greater Shepparton region’, ‘Visit Shepparton’, ‘Explore Greater Shepparton’ and ‘Shepparton and Surrounds’.
The brand will be officially launched in the coming months and rolled out later in the year.
