Democracy sausages a tasty way to fundraise

With any Federal or state election across Australia the thing people are hanging out for is the ‘democracy sausage’.

One of the few places across Shepparton to get a democracy sausage on Saturday was the Kialla Central Primary School where they were offering up sausages and a bake -sale for dessert.

Kialla Central Primary School principal Debbie Humphries said it was a great way to fundraise for the school.

“We created it a few years ago to have a cake stall to as a fundraiser for us and also to have a barbecue. So it’s well supported and our local community certainly look out for it,” Ms Humphries said.

“So we do it every year and it is just a fantastic opportunity for the school and to be on show to the general community and also raise some money for the school”.

According to Ms Humphries, the barbecue crew would cook over 160 sausages over the course of the day.

“We normally go through about 160 sausages on the day and about five kilos of onions,” she said.

“It is a nice money raiser”.

She said the bake goods were donated by 15 families from the school.

“We’re really lucky our parents and families are really generous. They donate all of the goods,” she said.

“This is the second time we’ve done this because we also did the federal election earlier this year.”
