Some of the college’s newest staff are completing their tertiary studies while working, while others have been in the field for their entire career.
Some, like Paul Goldsmith and Niki McConnell, already called Cobram home before taking up their post. A handful made their way here from interstate.
Maths teacher Adam Hughes and his wife decided to trade the rural city of Wagga Wagga, NSW, for the relative quiet of Tocumwal. And since moving to the district at the end of last year, Mr Hughes said he and his wife can’t see themselves anywhere else.

“I love the area. When I first came down here, when I first met my partner’s parents about five years ago, I instantly fell in love with the place,” Mr Hughes said.
When he’s not chasing his two-year-old and 11-month-old kids around the house, Mr Hughes likes to stay active by going for runs around his new town.
“We want our kids to grow up here, and we want to stay here as long as we can,” he said.
“Essentially, that’s why we bought our ‘forever home’, if you would like to call it that.”
Now, he teaches maths to Year 9 and 10 students at the college. Even after a 15-year career in education, Mr Hughes said he is still learning many new things each day.
“I’ve had experience at a lot of different schools, and the students here I’ve found to be quite engaged, to really want to enjoy their learning and get something out of it, which I find quite refreshing,” he said.
