Cobram Secondary College cookery students cooked up their first impeccable four-course lunch for guests on Wednesday, May 17 at Barooga Sporties under the guidance of Cobram’s very own master chef, Antonio Zardo.

The students put on the lunch as part of their assessment for their VET Certificate II in Cookery.
The school invited members of various local organisations, including FoodShare, Cobram Rotary and the Courier, to the sumptuous four-course lunch, which included mushroom soup, steamed barramundi on mash with panzanella salad, spaghetti bolognese and a baked apple and blueberry pancake topped with blueberry coulis.
CSC Year 10 student Eva Lannucci was one of the young chefs and she praised the unique experience offered to her by the school and Barooga Sporties.
“It’s been a pretty memorable experience. We’ve learned a lot of stuff along the way,” she said.
Eva said the most challenging thing to learn was the frying, as she wasn’t used to working with extremely hot oil.
And the most enjoyable food to prepare?
“The crepes, they were really fun to cook,” she said.
Eva said she would recommend anyone thinking about joining the hospitality industry to take up the VET course and said it was a lot of fun working with her fellow team members.
“It’s a really great way to meet new people,” Eva said.
Barooga Sporties operations manager Anton Noble said the students adapted well to their new learning environments.
“They’ve been terrific in the kitchen, they’ve interacted with our staff and are doing a great job,” he said.
