Four community representatives have been appointed by Greater Shepparton City Council to the committee protecting the region’s heritage.
The new members, David Mallinder, Jenny Nightingale, Jill Muir and Leonie Wilson, were elected at the February council meeting and will serve for the remainder of the current two-year term.
Committee member Cr Fern Summer displayed her appreciation for the new members and acknowledged their willingness to join the committee.
“We congratulate the four new community representatives who put up their hand to be part of the committee, and thank them for providing us with their knowledge and guidance on cultural heritage matters,” she said.
The Heritage Advisory Committee aims to advocate for all cultural heritage matters within the region, raising awareness of cultural heritage issues and promoting community participation within Greater Shepparton.
During the meeting council also adopted an amended terms of reference, which reflects the ongoing evolution and growth of the committee’s capacity to support and advise the council on heritage matters.
“The proposed changes to the terms of reference will ensure that they are fit for purpose and allow the committee to achieve its primary purpose to council,” City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said.
“Council work closely with the committee throughout the year and the terms of reference will guide their activities.”
