Special delivery: Rochester Secoondary College students designed animal colouring books for children from the Shine Bright EYM and made a special visit to enable to children to test drive their school holiday treats.
Colouring in will always be a favourite with children, so Rochester Secondary College’s Years 8/9 Design It, Make It elective students were on a guaranteed winner when they visited Shine Bright EYM last week to deliver the product of a recent design task.

Earlier in the term, students applied the design process of Research, Idea Generation, Concept Development and Refinement to create original illustrations for a colouring book.
Each student selected an animal, then developed a line-based illustration of it, as well as original typography to record the animal’s name within the composition.
The kindergarten kids were highly receptive to the colouring books, thumbing the pages to discover all the animals then sharing their favourites with our students.
There’s a bear in there: Students used animals as the base of the colouring books as part of their Design It, Make It elective.
Secondary college teachers said they could not be more proud of the Design It Make It class who applied and refined their design skills and worked as a team to create a collaborative product that had an external audience and a firm deadline.
The warmth and generosity they extended to the kinder kids on delivery day was pure joy.
College teachers thanked Rhiannon and the Shine Bright Rochester Kindergarten team for supporting this project.
Whale of a time: Years 8 and 9 students took the children on a test drive through the colouring books, which will no doubt be a welcome addition for several families still not back in their own homes in Rochester.
