The redevelopment was made possible due to the Victorian Government’s 2020-21 Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.
NCN Health chief executive Jacque Phillips has described it as an exciting and important investment for the region.
“In 2016 the Victorian Government established the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund to improve health services and agencies in rural and regional Victoria and deliver better care to patients, no matter where they live,” Ms Phillips said.
“The redevelopment of the Urgent Care Centre has been a priority for the board and management of formerly Cobram District Health and now NCN Health for many years.”
The full Urgent Care Centre redevelopment program will include creating a separate entry and ambulance access as well as additional internal works to meet regulatory and Department of Health requirements.
Further works will include a separate entry for the Urgent Care Centre from the main reception which will improve staff and user safety by creating two waiting areas with security features.
Theatre will be paused in Cobram with services relocating to the Numurkah campus for the duration of the build, starting this month.
Patients booked for theatre in 2023 will be contacted by NCN Health.
GPs will be able to continue to refer patients for surgical procedures as normal.
Patients will be able to attend the pre-anaesthetic clinic at the Cobram campus and will be contacted when surgical referrals are received from GPs.
The same surgeons from Cobram will operate at the Nurmurkah campus.
NCN Health warns that some hoarding and barriers will be put in place to help the flow of traffic and ensure community safety during the project.
NCN Health Cobram director clinical services Carolyn Hargreaves has called the redevelopment a plus for the community.
“The redevelopment is an important investment for the community that will provide a more accessible and safe health service together with upgraded facilities, improved safety, quality and efficiency.”
