The grant is part of the Victorian Government's $6 million Seasonal Workforce Accommodation Program announced on February 2.
SWAP will provide financial support for regional organisations and communities to deliver COVIDSafe accommodation, transport and support services for up to 500 seasonal horticultural workers.
Victorian Agriculture Minister Mary-Anne Thomas said the program would help local growers.
“These projects are great examples of ideas driven by locals who have the knowledge to meet the needs of local farmers and employers,” she said.
Cobram and District Fruit Growers’ Association general manager Karen Abberfield said the support was appreciated.
“We are so pleased and relieved to receive this support,” she said.
“This funding will enable the CDFGA to attract extra seasonal labour to Cobram and ensure existing labour stays for the rest of the season.”
The funding will also cover the costs to hire portable accommodation, toilets, shower blocks, kitchens or other facilities that encourage COVIDSafe practices including separation and hygiene.
SWAP is one part of the Victorian Government’s support for industry and farm employers following the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
This support includes more than $27 million in assistance for farm businesses and communities which has helped businesses attract local workers.
