Adults Learning Week is an international celebration of lifelong learning and runs from September 1 to 8.
This year’s theme is “It’s never too late to learn”.
In recognition of the importance of always learning, CCH put on two events, an information session on AI and a bread-making class, on Friday, September 1.
The AI information session explored ChatGPT and AI image and video generators.
The bread-making session allowed participants to make ciabatta bread.
The events had roughly 30 attendees.
CCH chief executive officer Christine Osborne said that providing opportunities for adults to learn is crucial.
“The world is constantly changing, so it is more important than ever to embrace new opportunities and keep up to date with the changes,” she said.
“Learning keeps your brain active, which as you get older can slow down brain aging and keep you mentally sharp for longer.”
Mrs Osborne said CCH’s learning sessions are both participatory and relevant.
“Our aim was to encourage participants to engage and learn something new,” Mrs Osborne said.
Reactions to both the information session and the bread-making class were positive, and Mrs Osborne said there was quite an interest in AI.
“The AI attendees were intrigued and interested in the opportunities and threats this new technology brings about,” she said.
“Many attendees indicated that they would explore this new technology further.”
As for the baking session, Mrs Osborne said the class encouraged people to make their own bread.
