St George’s Rd Primary School support dog Honey has been doted on by local businesses, after students put out the call using their best writing skills.

PETstock Shepparton’s Kylie Higgins and Vicki Saib presented toys, beds, accessories and food for Honey to the school on August 19.
Leading teacher Kate Qemal-Guy said PETstock was one of a number of stores that responded.
“The students have been working on persuasive texts, so they hand wrote persuasive letters and sent them to local businesses,” she said.

“The ladies at PETstock have been wonderful to come out and see us, and they’re now donating food for Honey, which will take a big cost off the school.”
The school also heard from Pets on Parade, Pets Domain, Coles, Hunters and Country Road.
“It means a lot,” Ms Qemal-Guy said.
“A dog costs a lot of money and her training costs are ongoing, but she’s a worthwhile expense.

“Having this taken off our shoulders will make a big difference to our school.”
Honey has been with the school since the start of Term 2 and is a seven-month-old groodle (a cross between a golden retriever and a poodle).
She has made a difference to the students and adults alike, bringing a warm atmosphere to every room she visits.
“We have students with social and emotional challenges, so they spend a lot of time with Honey, which has been amazing for them to calm down or if they’re having a bad day,” Ms Qemal-Guy said.

Pet Stock Shepparton’s Ms Saib said the letter they received had brought her to tears, and she told store manager Ms Higgins they had to do something to help.
Ms Higgins said the reaction of the students when they presented the donated items had been the best part of the experience.
“It’s a really good opportunity to support the kids and obviously Honey as well,” she said.
