Bob White moved into one of the villas last week, six months after the first of the units went on sale.
Mr White selected a Pretty Pine villa for his home - a two-bedroom, 1.5 bathroom home measuring 168 square meters.
Kate Sparks from Deni Real Estate, who is managing the sale of Edward River Village, expressed her excitement for the new occupant.
“This is a team effort, collaborating with Edward River Council, and we can look forward to more citizens moving into this amazing development soon,” she said.
Six villas were completed in stage one of the long anticipated seniors living development.
Edward River Mayor Peta Betts expects Mr White should have some new neighbours in the near future.
“We can’t wait to watch how this blossoming community of retirees will evolve over the coming months and years,” Cr Betts said.
Stage one of the project included the construction of two ‘Booroorban’ villas, two ‘Pretty Pine’ villas and two ‘Wanganella’ villas off an access road from Poictiers St.
Each model is slightly larger than the last, respectively, but all are wheelchair accessible and showcase quality finishes from local companies.
The project has been more than six years in the making, after land was secured close to the Deniliquin CBD in 2017.
Work on the development was finally started in 2022.
Sometimes steeped in controversy - mainly because of the costs associated - the desire for a seniors living precinct in Deniliquin has been evident in Deniliquin for a number of decades.
Stage two of the development will be triggered by the sale of the first six villas.
It would include the development of another six units, but Edward River Council has said plans to construct communal spaces may be brought forward from stage three which may result in fewer villas being built in stage two.
At its completion, the Edward River Village is expected to accommodate 32 villas across the 2.2ha block.
The Edward River Village is open for viewings every Saturday from 10am to 12pm during July to showcase the beautiful, low-maintenance homes to both Edward River locals and visitors to the region.
