State Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy is taking part in the annual Black Dog motorcycle ride in Wangaratta on Sunday, March 19 and is urging residents in the electorate to take part.
The Black Dog motorcycle ride started in 2009 to raise awareness of depression and has since raised millions for mental health programs around Australia.
Mr McCurdy has hailed the ride as a great event which raises money for an important cause.
“We all know someone who has been touched by suicide or depression, and just how much of an impact it can have,” he said.
“I rode last year, and the support we received was unbelievable.”
Mr McCurdy has encouraged everyone in the electorate to come and enjoy the barbecue, even if they are unable to ride, while encouraging those who can ride to bring out their motorbikes to support the event.
“I will again be riding a Harley, but let me assure you if there are any other bikes, colours or models that want to join us — ride your Vespa if you want to be part of it.”
Black Dog ride organiser Kurt Dissegna is urging everyone to show their support for such a vital cause.
“Too many people die from suicide each year, so the more support, the more we can help those who need it most,” Mr Dissegna said.
