The morning will include a presentation and morning tea and games for the kids to celebrate the end of a successful program.
This is one of the biggest years of Auskick in quite some time, with a new format linked to the incredibly high retention rate.
We’ll have more in Tuesday’s edition.
PT price increase
The price of the Deniliquin Pastoral Times will increase from next Friday, August 2, to $2 per edition.
We are raising our prices to help us continue to produce local journalism as costs rise.
We aim to continue to invest in serving our communities with relevant, engaging, and valuable community content.
We have always sought to keep the cover prices as low as possible for readers and don’t make the decision to increase prices lightly.
In the past 10 years, we have had as few as four price rises.
Those who have a home delivery subscription will see the subscription price rise to $4.80 per week, which will be $19.20 for a four-week subscription.
Subscribers also have access to the digital edition as well as to all articles on www.denipt.com.au.
The interactive edition gives you an audio option, historical archive access, and is presented in various languages to ensure you can read the news your way. If you haven’t already tried the digital edition, download the Press Reader app today via the App Store.
If you want assistance activating your digital privileges, or if you have any questions at any time, contact Kathryn or Carolyn in our subscriptions team on 1300 834 619, or email customerservice@mmg.com.au.
Lions markets
The Lions Community Market will be popping up tomorrow.
Starting about 8am, all kinds of stalls will be set up in the Waring Gardens.
From artisan products to fruits and veggies, there will be a wide range of things to choose from.
And of course, to keep you nice and warm while you shop around, warm coffee and food trucks will be available.
Did you hear the Riverlander?
The Riverlander steam train rolled into town last weekend, and will return on a second trip tomorrow.
The passenger train announced itself on the tracks running parallel to Hardinge St last Saturday morning, so keep an eye out for it this weekend.
The Riverlander is scheduled to visit both Deniliquin and Moama, for Moama Lights, from later today until Sunday with the service sold out.
The journeys are conducted by Seven-0-Seven Operations Inc who refer to the train as a moving museum, with a focus on celebrating our rail heritage.
The service brings a train-load of people to our region who stay and spend money, and it’s also a great sight for locals to get down and see.
After spending the night sleeping in the train’s restored carriages, passengers can get out and explore Deniliquin.
Expect to see then in our CBD visiting our retailers and eating in our local cafes and restaurants.
Book Week Parade
You can expect to see a very different looking group of students turning up to school at Deni South School today.
In the first week back from school holidays, the school is hosting Book Week celebrations and a parade today.
Another opportunity to dress up will be presented to the school’s younger students next week - Friday, August 2, is the 100 days of school for Kindergarten celebrations.
The Kindergarten students dress as old people for the day, which is sure to be a huge milestone for the most recent student cohort.
Deni Olympics fever
The Olympic Games will get under way officially tomorrow, with the opening ceremony and the games scheduled in Paris from July 26 to August 11, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8.
The 33rd edition of the Games will see more than 460 athletes of the Australian Olympic team in action in 42 out of 45 Olympic sports.
As many as 35 venues will be used for the 329 medal events.
Paris 2024 officially gets under way with the opening ceremony, but competitions in football and rugby sevens have already been under way since Wednesday.
Keep your eye out for a number of Olympic themed events around town.
