The War Memorial, which honours Australian troops who fought and died during World War I and II, was finished in April, though it was only officially opened by the Moira Shire Council.
Moira Shire administrator Suzanna Sheed represented the council and helped lead the event alongside Nurmurkah RSL president Stuart Hipwell.
World War II veteran Bert Sutton was the guest of honour at the event.
Bert fought in Papua New Guinea, while his brother fought in the Middle East against the German and Italian forces.
His father, Chris Sutton, fought in World War I and served as a runner, for which he received the military medal for bravery.
Talking to the Courier, Bert recalled the dogged battles against Japanese forces in jungle.
Bert was later asked to come home to help his father with the family farm.
