The tournament, played across four days from May 20 to 23, comprised a full field of 32 teams, including some of the best lawn bowlers from Victoria and southern NSW.
Wright and Cartwright played outstanding draw bowls throughout the tournament winning seven games and, by percentage, defeated runners-up Barry Ansett and Dennis McHarry, who also won their seven games.
In third place was Ian Ewing and Barry Laughlin.
Played in perfect weather conditions — and on first-class synthetic greens at Barooga — the tournament has again been successful, providing the opportunity to witness some of the best bowlers and bowls of the highest standard.
To complete the week, Barooga then welcomed the Victorian Rail Institute Bowls Club which visits Barooga to play its club’s championship pairs.
The institute received 44 nominations which resulted in 22 teams taking part. The preliminary rounds being played on Saturday with the final on Sunday.
From this event the VRI select its team for the next National Rail Bowls Tournament, which will be held in Moama in February.
The event was also played in ideal condition, it proved very successful and enjoyed by VRI bowlers and their families.
Overall the events were successful thanks to all club members who helped in the running of the events, whether it was the ground staff, the catering women, the bar staff and the tournament director, who all volunteered their time.
