The school’s Parents and Citizens’ Association, which is responsible for fundraising for the betterment of the school, had been seeking a way to cool down the school’s Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA).
The COLA is the heart of Barooga Pubic School and is where the students spend recess breaks and lunch.
It is also the location of school assemblies and other major events.
When hearing of the school’s need, Cobram Barooga Apex Club members were happy to help.
The club used some of the funding raised from its Pickers and Packers Ball to help cover the cost of the COLA improvements.
Club secretary Brad Connolly said the club’s mission was to assist the community and the Pickers and Packers Ball was designed to raise money that could be used to help community causes.
“The project is an important one for the school. It’s their central gathering point at Barooga Public School and we felt it was important for the comfort and wellbeing of the staff and students,” Mr Connolly said.
Cobram Barooga Apex Club has a long history of community service in the area.
They have assisted, among others, the Rotary Club, Strathmerton Lions Club and helped run Anzac and Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Parents and Citizens’ Association president Carly Marriott welcomed the donations and said it would ensure students remained comfortable during the hot summer months.
“It means when we all come together as a community, we can enjoy the events despite the summers we endure here,” Ms Marriott said.
The new fans and misters will be installed by year’s end.
