The tiny piece of land includes part of the road and a triangle of kerbside.
Councillor Ed Cox moved the motion to discontinue the parcel and sell the adjoining land to a neighbour.
“This is just tidying up something that’s been clearly overlooked for decades. It makes common sense to tidy it up,” Cr Cox said.
“It’s all straight forward as far as I’m concerned.”
The triangle of land attached to the road reserve will be separated and sold to the neighbour by private treaty for a fair price set by an independent valuator.
The transfer of ownership will result in the land becoming rateable, giving council a miniscule profit increase.
Only Cr Judy Heather voted against the motion — she wanted the expected price of the land to be recorded in the report.
Cr Peter Mansfield strongly supported the idea and suggested council look into more surplus land sales.
“I know of several parcels of land in the eastern end of the shire that can be used for exactly this same reason,” Cr Mansfield said.
“We can sell them to the adjoining land holders and raise money for the shire and infrastructure.”
Council has been trying to discontinue this road reserve since April 2019.
