Colbinabbin has welcomed its first round of ‘Colbo Stars’ for 2019.
Bella O’Dwyer, Jack Patrick, Abbey Ryan and Jackson Morgan received the first ‘Colbo Star’ awards at the school assembly last Monday morning. They were recognised for the way that have cared for the younger children in the first weeks of school and during the school swimming program.
The four students are described as being excellent role models by following school rules and adhering to the other attributes of a Colbo Star. They have also earned the first house points for the year for their respective houses.
The Ducks are on 30 points with the Hoppers on 10. Children will get a chance to earn more house points at the swimming challenge that is coming up, and at the Campaspe Cluster Swimming Sports on March 1.
The school is also excited to have welcomed seven new prep students into the Colbinabbin Primary School family.
In particular, they extended a warm welcome to four new families — Kate Hill and Marty Borger and their daughter, Ivie, Kelly and David Walsh and their daughter, Holly, Annalise and Matt Johnson and their son, Ethan, and Tymika and Jake Weppner and their son, Nick.
They also welcomed their sibling group, Lillie Reeves, Lulu Ryan and Vinnie Ryan.
There is a new face on staff, with Louise Prosser joining in an administration and finance manager role. Louise has moved with her family to Bendigo from south west Victoria.
In class, Colbinabbin children have been beating their own drum — literally — with the help of the Elmore Charity Ball Committee, who provided the school with a grant to have two teachers, Emily Glenn and Wendy Morgan, trained as DRUMBEAT facilitators, and to allowed the purchase of drums.
The DRUMBEAT Program is a student wellbeing program that promotes self-esteem, self-regulation and builds resilience. The name DRUMBEAT is an acronym for Discovering Relationships Using Music, Beliefs, Emotions, Attitudes, and Thoughts. The program is based on sound theory and documented research.
At the beginning of the year the school revealed its new vision statement. Last year they asked the community – parents, children and staff – about their hopes for the children of Colbinabbin. These were then collated and submitted to school council. The selected vision statement was primarily written by the children.
It reads:
‘We hope the children of Colbinabbin Primary School enjoy their education and are active and healthy learners who try their best. We hope to provide all children with skills and behaviours to achieve their life goals. Leadership, creativity, cooperation, gratitude and caring for their peers provide a foundation for all their learning in an inclusive environment. We hope our children are socially connected, respectful and honest and they honour their ‘school values’. We hope they will embrace Colbinabbin’s history.’
In upcoming news, March 24 will see the annual Market Day enter its 28th year.
This year will have a wonderful array of market stalls to tempt you. Renowned local band Milkwood will perform, and Ferlattes will provide the coffee.
There will be the usual drawcards including great food, a bar, children’s activities, jumping castles and a spinning wheel with awesome prizes. A trailer of wood will also be auctioned off. It’s a fantastic day out and the school looks forward to welcoming everyone to this community event.
