The Moira Shire Council was successful in receiving a $120,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s FReeZA program, which targets youth engagement programs across the state.
The grant will be applied to help the council deliver youth-led events across the shire over the next three years.
In the past, the program has gone towards initiatives such as the North East Skate Park series, underage discos, roller discos and pool parties.
At least 4,700 people attended 40 events - all of which were drug, alcohol and smoke-free - supported and delivered by the Moira Shire Council over the last three years.
Council chair administrator Dr Graeme Emonson said the funding is critical to support council to continue delivering fun, engaging events and creating exciting opportunities for young people.
“We want to ensure this program reflects the interests and aspirations of our young people, which is why we’re encouraging them to share their ideas and help shape the activities for 2025,” he said.
“Our newly appointed Youth Council will also play an important role in designing and delivering events that inspire and engage our young people, and we are excited to see what is on the horizon as part of this program.
“A short survey is now open, and we want as many young voices as possible to contribute.”
The council invites young people across the shire aged between 12 and 25 to share their ideas on the types of events, music and creative opportunities they’d like to see in their community.
